If you can, demo one first.

thane_dogg 02-07-2005 10:35 AM

I'll let you know as soon as I can ride again. I'll post a review when I ride one.

pierce_bronkite 02-07-2005 12:22 PM

Has anyone seen how big the edges are in the middle of the board? They look kind of fat and beveled. Looks different, I wonder how that effects they way it rides??

gherk 02-07-2005 2:00 PM

I say get them both.

thane_dogg 02-07-2005 4:19 PM

I will have both when I get the fish. You're just spoiled.

The edges towards the center of the board on the fish are totally rounded off and a moderately sharp in the tail.

malibususpect 02-07-2005 4:23 PM

someone can buy me one if they want

i haven't ridden it yet but my buddy also has the substance and the fish. I watched from the boat and can say that it is a dramtic difference in pop albeit it looked slower in the water. With the very pronounced edge in the center it displaces water better and allows for a very smooth landing. I'll try and post a short video later of the diff between the 2

thane_dogg 02-07-2005 5:09 PM

Right on Randy. How's the knee?

gherk 02-08-2005 11:33 AM

The fish has great pop and so does the substance. The fish is better, but probably not so much that makes a significant difference. But for reference, a friend of mine landed his first 5 on the fish and hasn't been able to land it since. So I would say the swing weight and manuverability is better. The fish takes a little time to get use too because it does tend to get very loose when your starting your edge.

Paul - have you ever ridden your substance finless?

jarrod 02-08-2005 1:52 PM

I know you didn't ask me but....I rode the Substance finless and loved it. Seems like it would be way to tight with the center fins on.

the_love_muscle 02-08-2005 2:20 PM

I love both the fish and the substance. The fish has great pop with a real floaty feeling. The substance is a good all around board. I stuck my whole bag of tricks with ease the first time I rode it. In my opinion, it's better finless. It seemed too locked down with the fins on.

thane_dogg 02-08-2005 2:46 PM

Russell - what board are you talking about that you stuck all your tricks on the first time you rode it? Better finless? Were you talking about the fish or the substance?

jarrod 02-08-2005 2:52 PM

"The substance is a good all around board. I stuck my whole bag of tricks with ease the first time I rode it."

seems pretty clear to me genius

the_love_muscle 02-08-2005 2:56 PM

It was the Substance that I stuck every thing on, but I really loved Fish. On the Fish, everyone in the boat said they had never seen me pop w2w tricks so high.

thane_dogg 02-08-2005 3:05 PM

hey now, cut me some slack. I'm still recovering.

pimp131 02-08-2005 4:41 PM

i have a fish 29 that im not really riding much, if anyone is interested im willing to give a real good deal on it

stephan 02-08-2005 10:55 PM

The rounded edges allow it to ride higher in the water. That way the thin tail edges are allowed to sink in more than the middle. Basically it's what you have to do to get the tail down on an extremely wide board. If they had thin edges mid-ship the fins would never engage.

Thane, I met your GF at the LA Show. Nice girl. We should all get together and ride sometime this spring/summer.

sylv2080 02-09-2005 5:10 PM

How much you willing to part with that 129 Fish??????????????

wakeripper 02-09-2005 9:23 PM

Thane, the knee is recovering quite well, It's been 6 months and i have been riding alot of moto for the past month or so and am doing bigger hits than before surgery, alot of things have kept me off the water lately but i hope to be out there soon. I am really trying to get back into shape and hopefully riding here in the next few weeks when i get my new board and bindings . I just want to stay healthy long enough so i can get out to the Canyon Lake contest this year
