Water leaking in somewhere. Please Help!
 

I have an '01 V-Drive that takes on a small amount of water when docked during the day. It is not a lot of water but I am nervous that the auto bilge will some how not turn on and I will have big problems.

Has anyone ever heard of this? What could it be?

I put the plug in and put in some water in the boat to see if I could find out where the leak was, but nothing happened. Thanks.

shaft packing. It is suppose to leak. It is where the shaft comes through the hull you will see two large nuts. That is where the drip comes from.

Yeah and if its leaking too much it may need to be adjusted or replaced.

shaft packing is most likely but it could be the rudder seal also look in both areas with boat in water. shaft packing seal will be behind engine and under v drive.

Had the same type of issue with my Supra when I first got it. They finally found that one of the exhaust fittings was leaking. To find the leak they filled up the bilge with water and then lifted the bow up with a fork lift until enough water surrounded the fittings. Then a few years later I had another leak that took forever to find. This one turned out to be a leak on the front of the water pump housing where a bolt had sheered off.

Leaks are pesky little boogers, but you just have to eliminate the possible causes one by one.
