Drivers side sub enclosures.
Hey guys I just dropped my boat off to get the stereo done. I'm trying to decide on an enclosure for the drivers side. I'd like to do a plexi front and have the inside mirrored. Or something cool like that. I'm open to doing a kick panel. I just don't want a plain looking wall at my feet. So David/ any of the acme or Chucktronics guys or any of you guys with subs at your drivers feet care to share pics of your enclosures it would be appreciated. I figured the guys at acme or earmark or Chucktronics would have pics of customer installs. Any help is wonderful! Thanks!

Has anyone tried different types of enclosures in that area and/or subs facing in different directions? When I built mine, I found that is sounded best firing towards the front if the boat instead of out/back like most. It seamed like it needs to reflect off something to create a decent sound in a sealed or ported box. It definately looks best firing towards the back but how have people got the best sound/bass?

Side-firing will be more robust on the heavy bass. Slight differences with slight advantages and slight trade-offs. If you want to use a plex front and put the woofer on display, side-firing certainly gives you a larger window. David Earmark Marine |

In the two underdash plex sub enclosure pics that I posted, the enclosures and facade are elevated off the sole so that your feet slide under the enclosure for more leg room. David Earmark Marine |

That particular enclosure is down-firing so the enclosure was elevated off the sole as much as was possible, but certainly limited. To be honest, it didn't sound as good as it could....but it was what the boat owner wanted as a show piece. Down-firing with inadequate elevation plus downfiring into a vented compartment. Two acoustical strikes against it. The entire floor certainly shook under your feet and it was very tactile but musically it left something to be desired. David Earmark Marine |

My existing sub under the helm. Spec'd ported box stuffed in there. Adding a box to the walkway and it'll all b trimmed out and act as a huge bow cushion.

really like the designs here. i have just a normal box with a kick panel over the top.
are all the floors in these boats the same level? In the Sanger the floor is raised to the sides of the boat. Just wondering how you guys in a similar position get the mounting of the sub within the box bang on so its level?? I used blu tac and a level, building up the back and front with blu tac then making stands with ply, but its still not 100%. Any advice would be good...... |

Just built my first custom sub box and trim panel. I could not go ported this time because of space. I designed a custom sealed box with a spacer ring to give me the mounting depth I needed for my sub. Air space is dead on by JL specs. I screwed and glued the box and sealed all the inside seams and thermal cup. I Coated the box with many coats of spray on bed liner and painted the spacer ring to match the boat. I put feet on the bottom to give space between the box and the floor of the boat and made a kick panel that slides over the ring so the box could be removed if needed. I was not sure how it would turn out but am super happy with the results. For a sealed box with a single JL 12W6V3D4 powered by a Arc KS 1000.1 it pounds
