Travis, The best way to find out dates is to hit up all the local shops and ask them. They'll know what's going on in the sports they cover.
Travis, I'm pretty new to the industry but here is some advice for ya, hope this helps:
1. Don't wait for things to come to you, go out and make things happen. In this industry we are lucky to have a lot of open-minded people in high places and there are a lot of opportunities out there, sometimes you have to make them, but I assure you they are there.
2. Its not who you know that matters, its who knows you. Try to make your first impression a lasting positive one. This way people are more willing to help you out/give you a shot.
3. Keep in mind while there are a lot of great people out there, this is a $$ driven world, like it or not. When seeking help/advice/job or whatever, make sure you make it crystal clear how you can benefit the person helping you out. Make sure they know whats in it for them in a tactful way. And ALWAYS say ‘Thank You’.
4. HAVE FUN!

~Bess

PS Good luck and have fun

Travis,

S'all good, that so awesome you got to go to Utah. I jus went snowboarding yesterday and it was aweful, the mountain was glare ice with like 2 inches of slush. Anyway, I'm super new to the business, I'm do'n photography right now and trying to work my way into the film industry. Right now I am using my dad's Sony Cybershot digi cam and am saving for my own camera. I'm going to school down in boca raton FL @ Lynn University to hopefully major in film. I've shot pics for the Cable Wakeboard Tour at the tour stop in Montreal (you can see some of the pics of Robin Friday in the interview: http://www.wakeworld.com/interviews/2003/robinfriday1.asp ), and I shoot locally (New England Area). I did shoot a little bit of video with Andrew Adkison and the guys at the Murriott but Andrew was the only one who rode before I had to leave (Shaun had jus broken his leg, and I promised to meet some relatives in Orlando later that afternoon) but it was more for practice sake than anything else). I shoot wherever/whenever I can and for anyone who wants me to. I'd love to shoot with you sometime, that would be so fun! Do you do much traveling in the summer? Where are you go'n to school/what are you using for equip? I'll be in FL till the begin of March then who knows cause I'm going to try and make it to as many tour stops as I can afford to $$ wise. We'll see what happens... if I am ever in Cali or we're ever in the same area we should defenitly hook up to shoot some vid/pics! Good times for sure!
~Bess

(Message edited by xtremebordgurl on January 05, 2004)
