I've just started on redoing the system in my lil run about from last year. I wasn't happy at all with the looks of it, so I've gutted and am starting all over again. I will be using all the same equipment and adding a couple pieces to it all. The big changes are getting rid of the MB-8's and replacing those with Pro 80's, adding another DD C2A, replacing all the Alpine's with XS650's, adding a 3rd pair of XS's to the bow area.
The biggest change will be amp mounting and interior color. Since a couple seats had tears and the rear engine cover was torn badly, I decided to tackle recovering it myself along with mounting the amps on the cover.
The engine cover will be the main attraction. 6 of the 7 amps will mounted here. The center piece will be 3/4" plexi glass and edge lit with LED's to show off the amps. The glass will be flush mounted into the foam. There will be a piece of matching vinyl wrapped foam to cover the plexi on normal weekends. It will be raised an lowered with 2-110lb linear actuators. I'll have the amp area totally sealed off from the top side and am planning on using 6-8 fans, mounted on the bottom side to keep the amps cool. I still haven't decided on wether to make trim pieces so all you can see are the amps, or expose the entire area. The dist. blocks will all be hidden under a false floor to the right of the amps.

On to the pics of tear down.

The first picture of the amps is how they will be mounted, 2nd pic was just trying out some different ideas and wether or not I want to have trim pieces around each one.

My first order of business was to get the boat in my garage and get the tower off and some of the seats out and o.e vinyl removed so I could start recovering them. This is my first time to even attempt any kind of interior work, so go easy on me.

First up was the middle portion of the rear bench(used to match the outer pieces). Still have to reocover those.
Next I started on one of the front seats. I did the middle cushion's first. The outer will be done in all white.

I've been at a stand still the last two weeks b/c its just been to dang cold to work out in the garage, plus I've been waiting on the plexi and vinyl to show up so I can button up the engine cover. I've also been waiting on some misc. items to arrive to.
I was wanting to flush mount the EQ on the dash, but there just isn't room to do it cleanly, so it will have to go near the throttle.

Since I forgot to mention, here's a run down of the equimpent list for this year.
1 pair of Pro 485's
1 pair of Pro 80's.
4 Digital Design C2A's powering the tower.
3 pair of Wetsounds XS650's
2 Digital Design C1A's for the in boats
2 Digital Design's 2512 subs
2 Digital Design's M1A powering the subs.
Wetsounds WS420 EQ
Pioneer DEH5800 h/unit.
Pioneer wired LCD display remote
I-Rock wireless remotes. One to carry, one mounted in the bow area.
Battery bank is 4 VMAX charge tank 2500's. These things worked AWESOME last year.
One starting battery and a red top Optima as a back up. There is also PAC automatic isolator wired in.

I managed to find some time on Saturday to mount the EQ and AUX input. Also got some wiring cleaned up and tucked away. Still have a long ways to go. Don't mind the wiring behind the eq as I haven't even began to clean that up.

And one of me slaving away

Today I decided to go ahead and refinish my wetsounds grilles since they were beginning to look a lil tarnished. Picked a flat black to finish them in. I'm also contemplating doing the tower and windshield frame in the same finish.

jmuck 02-09-2010 7:57 PM

You guys give me your opinion on doing the tower and windshield frame in the same black.

Here's a pic to get an idea of how it looks now.

ralph 02-09-2010 8:20 PM

I prefer the silver to tie in with your rub rail

norcalmalibu 02-09-2010 8:24 PM

wow those pro 80s must be insane loud pointing straight down.

jmuck 02-09-2010 8:29 PM

Nate, those are MB8's on there now(switching to 80's) and you could barely hear them over the 485's. I'm going to attempt to fab some kind of mount when I put the 80's up there to get them pointed more straight back. Even if I can't, it shouldn't be bad since most of our time is spent around the boat just hanging out.

Got just a little bit of work done tonight. Finalized the amp rack lay out and got the foam fitted. The floor will covered in black carpet and all the wiring etc will be able to be seen when the top cover is off. I won't be able to finish the rack until my fans show up. Instead of edge lighting the plexi, the leds will be flushed into the supports.

jmuck 02-11-2010 8:08 PM

Here's a shot of the amp rack

Started on the tower also and its a PITA so far. I'm still trying to decide what color to finish the tower in, I keep leaning to the black but I'm just not sure.

Metal/ Silver would be awesome.

02-12-2010 10:42 AM

Hey Jarrod are you any good at tuning tower speakers? Sorry for such a dumb question Just wondering what you might charge for you to tune my system.

jmuck 02-12-2010 11:28 AM

I think I'm alright. HAHA. I've never had a person say my system sounded anything but good.

I assume your in the OKC area? If so give me a shout at my store 405-360-8855 and I'll take care of ya.

02-12-2010 12:22 PM

Cool I will give you a call some time I live in Edmond.

jmuck 02-15-2010 7:04 AM

Had a friend of mine photoshop a picture of the tower in flat black like I'm thinking. If I do it, I'll also be doing the windshield frame like I mentioned before.
The color he did it in is a little lighter than I'd actually use though, but give me your thoughts.

99_slaunch 02-15-2010 9:18 AM

I think it will look good. If you are going to do the tower and windshield frame I would do the bimini frame too.

ironj32 02-15-2010 10:35 AM

if it we're mine, i'd stick with the silver that you have.

jmuck 03-03-2010 4:29 PM

Managed to find some time to finish up all but the sub wiring and the rest of the LED's. Just waiting on the carpet to come in and the tower to get back from powder coating and she'll be ready to put back together. The wiring went pretty quickly and was suprisingly easy to keep away from all power sources including the neons. There was only so much I could do with the wiring in the engine compartment to keep it clean looking since room isn't at a premium.

On to this round of pics:

I installed some Ozinum flood style lights in the rear vents to really get it lit up back there

Some of the wiring. Not really a lot to run from the back to the eq which was nice.

"0" gauge from the alt to battery bank

This pic just shows the first run of power wire to the amp rack, after I snapped this pic I realized I had to move the speaker wires to the other side of the wall.

In boat speaker wires and RCA's.

Hopefully I'll have the engine cover/amp rack pics up by this weekend.

nice work

jmuck 03-10-2010 7:01 AM

Finally picked up my tower from the powdercoater. Very happy with how it turned out, I'm just ready to see how it looks on the boat. I went ahead with a satin finish to match my wetsounds grille's.
Hopefully this week I'll make some progress. Went out of town last weekend and have to be in Dallas this weekend for work. Gonna try and squeeze some time to finish the remaining seats this week.

Finally some more progress.

I was able to get 90% of the engine cover done and all of it wired except the LED's which I still haven't ordered yet. Today I'll finish wrapping the vinyl, get it on the boat and finish wiring it up. I also got the tower wired, bimini top back on and the wetsounds mounts on it. I have changed a few things up since I went ahead and left the MB8's off (I think the tower looks better w/out them) My black XS650's just showed up last week so I'll get around to installing them next week. So far so good.

Don't mind the loose wiring as I hadn't carpeted the bottom yet

And here is the semi finished project loaded up

Finally made some serious progress yesterday. This is the second go around with the amp rack as I hated how it turned out before. I went ahead and added foam to raise it up so I could get a nice comfy foam pad to cover the plexi for regular use. Still waiting on a couple led's to show up so I can install them in the amp rack. Also just need to install the XS650's down in the boat. I'm also waiting on my hub adapters to show up so I can mount the new 17" XD Addict's to match the trucks.
The corner's aren't perfect, but I can def. live with them. I'll try again next year to make it look cleaner, I'm just ready to hit the water with it for now.

Excuse the poor pic quality, I was using my cell.

That sure looks nice and I'm sure it took a lot of work, but I'm not sure (a) I'd want all of my wet friends climbing over my amps to get in the boat or (b) I'd want unprotected electronics mounted directly above the engine compartment.

jmuck 04-12-2010 5:00 PM

Once the last of the LED's are in, it will be sealed up, top, bottom and sides. There will be a chance for water to get in, BUT very unlikely. I had them mounted on the gunwales all last year and had zero issues with water, drinks etc.
