Well I decided to try to make my own mirror mount. I already had the mirror, but I didnt like how it attached to the windshield and I didnt want to spend $100 plus. So first I bought a clamp from ebay http://stores.ebay.com/Pyramid-Manufacturing only $16.00 and when i emailed him that I was only 40 min away, he said had an employee going through my town and he would drop it off.(Thats service) Then I had one of my students weld together the steel tubes and weld in threads at the end. We then heat bent it and cleaned up all the welds. A couple of coats of primer and some coats of paint and screwed to the clamp with loc-tite. It came out pretty nice and cost under $40.00.

Richard,

Nice work, that looks like one you would buy. I was going to chrome mine but I thought the black fit my setup better.

Nice, good on you for sticking it to those high priced b-holes!!

yosquire 04-23-2006 9:15 PM

Thanks for sharing your work. Looks good.

I guess it works, but how much time/energy did you put into saving $40 instead of buying a billet aluminum, mass-produced product?

If you built your own boat, then you saved big. But the mirror mount? Gas prices are going up BTW. I wouldn't want that custom mount to sit in the garage.

so you saved 60 bucks but had to have acess to a welder, where do i sign

Just when I thought I was done with boat projects for a while..... Now I have something else to work on. Thanks!!

Looks Great!!!!

Jason, I don't think that the issue of saving money is the thing. I'm retired and have the ability of fabricating various items. It is that some of us are proud that we can fab items for our boats, to come up with different styles to fit our looks of the boat. I made my tower legs to fit the slope of my windshield so it looks unique. Made my mirrow bracket and camers mount.

mplv 04-24-2006 9:03 AM

got a pic of the camera mount?

yosquire 04-24-2006 9:06 AM

Jason -- Gas prices are going up...so eat your own words. Now Richard has $40 to burn in gas on the water.

I'm sure with your close attention to "time/energy" expenditures that you have plenty experience building your own stuff. So much experience that you can accurately determine the cost savings in building your own boat.

I highly doubt you could save money building a boat.
I agree I could of spent the money to buy one and save some time, But I wanted one that fit my boat and didnt need to be adjusted, wont come lose in a double up. I know not everybody has access to all the tools to do some of these projects, but there are lots of small projects you can do yourself on your boats. Every 3-4 dollars you save is another gallon of gas. Alejandro the bracket looks great and great price, I would also agree with adding a shipping calculator or having a set fee. Now you need to start carrying bimini top clamps like this

Rob, I think you can get those clamps from Adlee Biminis in Corona. $40 a set.
All those mirror mounts look great.

(Message edited by 95sn on April 24, 2006)

Darrel,
I am trying to win some on ebay. If that falls through I may take you up on that.

yosquire 04-24-2006 7:40 PM

The clamp pictured above is available on E-bay. I won't be specific, but the seller is willing to negotiate. I wouldn't go more than $20 a set. Though, it's only available in 2"

Darrel - I found Adlee's web site http://adleecoversboats.com/

hemihauler 04-24-2006 7:58 PM

Craig,
2"is what I want. The one on ebay is what I want but the shipping is $18 so I dont want to go to high on my bid. Do you know if the seller willing sell without going through ebay?

ramhouse 04-24-2006 8:10 PM

Camera mount you could almost see in the pic of mirror mount. Keeping it underwraps till i'm sure it works, and it should.
