wakeviolater 11-10-2006 4:30 PM

All this talk about parks, danny and rusty landing the 1080...why no more talk about Mark's supposed landings? Let's hear all the rumors and FACTS if you got 'um. I'll start: <BR> <BR>Regular heelside 1080's, Rumors say he landed 10 or so...

c640947 11-10-2006 5:10 PM

get one on video and I'm sure people will be a talking

isler 11-10-2006 5:32 PM

Andrew- <BR>To my knowledge, nobody ever caught one on video or in photos, and sadly Mark passed away in 2002... so I don't think there will be any future videos appearing.

muckno_rider 11-10-2006 5:33 PM

Andrew, I don't think there will be video of Mark Kenny's 1080's cause I think he's the guy that died some time back from an allergic reaction to medication he was taking for a wakeboarding injury. <BR>I think he landed some 1080's though. I'm not sure but I think thats the guy.

projectely4 11-10-2006 5:53 PM

well i think they would have got one on video if he landed multiple ones.

richd 11-10-2006 6:58 PM

Most of the other stuff I have seen of him on video is just as impressive so these's little doubt in my mind he was landing them regularly!

srh00z 11-10-2006 7:23 PM

Here is some video for those unfamiliar <a href="http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php/-quot" target="_blank">http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php/-quot</a>;It-s-All-Good-quot;_wakeboarding-photos.html?medid=13516 <BR>I think it is concievable that he landed a few 10's or at least one. Does anybody know who was around when he landed them?

wakedad33 11-10-2006 8:00 PM

I think he was coached by Mike Farro in Orlando and remember reading something from Mike a while back about him landing some.

wake_upppp 11-10-2006 8:07 PM

Yeah, it was Farraro that said Mark had landed some while he was coaching him. Very credible I think.

malibuboarder75 11-10-2006 9:58 PM

Mike Farraro actually said he landed 2 in one pass (one at each end of the lake). One was regular, the other switch. Very credible I think.

11-11-2006 12:09 AM

If anyone could do it, it would be him.

mcook77 11-11-2006 3:41 AM

Here's the correct link to Stephen's post above. <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php/_wakeboarding-photos.html?medid=13516" target="_blank">http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php/_wakeboarding-photos.html?medid=13516</a>

iamnathanhudson 11-11-2006 5:43 AM

That video was made by my friend Jay who Mark used to stay with. He rode on Harris Lake quite a bit. I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of meeting him and hanging out with him when he rolled up to lake gaston. Mark was a SICK SICK SICK rider!!!! He was WAY ahead of his time. In the first photo...Jay is at the bottom and of course you can definitely spot Mark to the right. The other pictures show just how big Mark went. The hoochie was at the Gravity Games that he won prior to his passing. He cracked his ribs there and that led to the reaction to the medicine. The mobe shows how big he went off just a regular wake (no double up) <BR>RIP Mark! <BR>-Nate <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/388522.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/388523.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/388524.jpg" alt="Upload">

K.B.C. 11-11-2006 7:20 AM

wow, HUGE

richd 11-11-2006 8:13 AM

Thanks for posting that shot of the backmobe, Chris is always talking about that sequence of Mark but that's the first time I've actually seen that picture! <BR> <BR>That is huge for that trick.

bbr 11-11-2006 9:06 AM

It looks like he hit a double up!! Mark was the best rider.....period.

solo 11-11-2006 10:18 AM

It was cool to watch Mark ride in that video. His time was cut way too short.

socalwakepunk 11-11-2006 10:29 AM

"Mark was the best rider.....period." <BR> <BR>"His time was cut way too short." <BR> <BR> <BR>Tell it, my Bruthaz!!!! <BR> <BR> <BR>Now, find your copies of Monkey on a String, FF to the 2nd to last section and say "Whoooaaahhhh!!!!" <BR> <BR>(Message edited by socalwakepunk on November 11, 2006)

doubleup_dan 11-11-2006 3:58 PM

my mate was driving for him in the uk when he landed one switch toeside.... <BR> <BR>he told me that when we was in new zeland he was just missing the last handle pass on a 1260 thogh i never saw either with my own eyes <BR> <BR>but i have seen him do triple s-bends on the cable on a normal line and blind 7 with ease (remeber this was 2001!!) <BR>RIP mate

cwbpure 11-12-2006 4:58 AM

apparently marks parents have footage of his 1080s.. there is no doubt in my mind that he has landed a bag of them.. regular or switch..

dmac 11-12-2006 7:51 PM

..I dont want to start anything, but I've heard a rumor that someone somewhere has footage of his 10's but dosn't really know what they are worth.

blake_hughes 11-12-2006 8:04 PM

TackleBerry, <BR> <BR>I use to watch that part over, and over, again... I couldn't believe my eyes. Anytime my friends would ask about wakeboarding, I'd pop in the DVD, and say, "Check this out!" <BR> <BR>As old as that is, it's still insanely BIG... Pretty impresive. I wish he was still around. <BR> <BR>-Blake

tings00 11-13-2006 8:42 AM

who did mark ride for, which board was his? that vid is sick.

electricsnow 11-13-2006 8:48 AM

he rode for hyperlite way back when, and then he rode for cwb. <BR> <BR>And that mobe is ridiculous. he was definitely a breath of fresh air, that's for sure...

dakid 11-13-2006 8:50 AM

isn't that a switch back mobe?

stephan 11-13-2006 9:04 AM

I remember at the Irvine Tour stop (a few weeks before he passed) they announced Mark Kenney off the dock. I said, "Dad watch this guy. I want to ride like this". We proceeded to drop our jaws and watch as Mark obliterated the field. Huge switch mobe into the flats (something tells me the above sequence is into the flats just the PS job made it wake to wake, he has too much of an edge to go wake to wake) and just crazy tech tricks. Somehow they gave the day to Erik Ruck, I talked about that day with Andrew Adkison two years ago at the LA Boat Show, he freaked out on how Mark should have won and how amazing his riding was. I swear to God I cried when I heard he died. Never knew him, met him for 2 seconds but was incredibly inspired by his riding and attitude. RIP Mark Kenney. And props for landing the FIRST 1080!!! <BR> <BR>(Message edited by stephan on November 13, 2006)

toby_yeo 11-13-2006 9:25 AM

mark kenny is my insperation.

tings00 11-13-2006 10:08 AM

so did he have his own board at hyperlite or cwb

reid808 11-13-2006 10:38 AM

Mark rode for us at RNR Surf &amp; Ski (Hawaii) for just over a year. He was an amazing rider. I always said that he would be World Champion one day. Its a shame that we are no longer blessed. Some of the home video's that I have would blow your mind. He had the art of "Loading the Line" down to a science. Mike Ferraro and Paul O'Brien were the first to showcase Mark's remarkable talent. He will go down in history as my "All Time" favorite rider to watch. <BR> <BR>Mahalo, <BR> <BR>Reid

stephan 11-13-2006 10:44 AM

B Tingey, he was a Hyperlite rider for like two weeks, slept through a Final and as I recall got fired pretty quick. He rode for CWB for much longer and was riding the original Absolute. He was a youngin and did not have his own deck, he would have though. Wasn't he 18 or 19 when he passed?

mcook77 11-13-2006 4:58 PM

He was 19 when he passed away.

seven20 11-13-2006 5:41 PM

I'm not going to get into the did mark kenney land a 1080 argument, but the FIRST 1080? I definately don't think so..Parks landed it in '99, and I don't think kenney was doing them then if ever

wsrwilliams 11-13-2006 7:13 PM

Mark told me he landed 9 of them before he passed on. I never saw video but he landed all of his 1080's over a short period so for sure I bet he would be landing 1260's no problem by now.

johnm_ttu 11-13-2006 8:16 PM

Mark Kenny's riding can also be seen in Type ADD. If you have ever watched this video it really gives you an idea of the kind of energy and enthusiasm he put into his riding. Just wish I could have seen him ride in person.

c640947 11-14-2006 10:13 AM

my appologies - i did not make the connection to the name. wish he had gotten one on video.

lfxstar 11-14-2006 6:28 PM

i don't know why everyone always needs video proof. what if there wasn't a video camera out the day rusty, danny or parks stuck their's? PEOPLE WOULD STILL BELIEVE IT. If you have seen him ride, there is no reason to doubt he landed a 10 PLUS he was a cable rider which if you haven't noticed (jimmy lariche, adam errington) it makes you a very good spinner, and you learn to land blind as easily as landing regular. I BELIEVE he landed multiple 10s before his passing

srh00z 11-15-2006 6:37 AM

Did Mark throw his 10's on the old Absolute shape that he rode?

eternalshadow 11-18-2006 4:26 PM

A pleasure to watch as he was just coming into consistency and his prime. Rest in peace brother.

wakedave 12-06-2006 11:11 PM

I put together some time back a short video section of Mark Kenny back in 2000 when he was riding with Parks. You can see it : <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeboard.com.sg/index.php?showtopic=62" target="_blank">http://www.wakeboard.com.sg/index.php?showtopic=62</a> <BR> <BR>He was definitely an amazing rider, both on boat and cable.... RIP

innov8actionsports.com 12-07-2006 8:45 AM

The kid killed it, way,way ahead of his time. <BR>R.I.P Mark. <BR>There is no doubt in my mind he landed a 1080, more then once.

damienk 12-07-2006 5:04 PM

The trick I saw Mark pull that left my jaw hanging on the floor was...I don't know what he called it but I will describe it. It would start out as a massive S-Bend, when he was completely inverted he would then grab the board method, come out of the s-bend holding a perfect hoochie...then right before he landed would turn it to Vulcan. I realize this trick may not be "core" enough for some but it was insane...if someone has a video of this trick I would love to see it again.

ryan_shima1 12-07-2006 8:58 PM

Damien, I think he called that the bee sting? Definitely a sweet trick.
