What does everyone think the best point and shoot camera is. I want one that's thin and small. Any suggestions?

I have and really like the Canon S70 and they've just come out with the S80 as well.

I did a TON of research on this as well. Canon SD80 is a great camera but I didn't like how it felt in my hand.

I narrowed it down to the following cameras
Fuji FinePix F10
Nikon Coolpix P1 / P2
Casio Exlim Z750
Canon SD400 / SD550

I wanted a great quality camera with a 2 1/2" screen and was compact. They are all good cameras but I ended up going with the Canon SD550. It has the same digital processor as the Rebel XT. I do like the Nikon but it's start up time and shooting speed was slower than the Canon. The Fuji is fast too and has a "Natural" light setting (as well as the Nikon) but I read those pictures can be a little noisy.

Canon SD550 isn't cheap but do a search on pricegrabbers.com and you can find a decent deal.

I was originally thinking of getting the SD400 to save a little money. How does that compare with the SD550?

bigdad 12-07-2005 11:18 AM

They are virtually identical but the 550 has a little more settings you can play with. SD550 is also 7.1 megapixels but the body is slightly larger. The body is larger because it has a bigger lens. The image quality between the two is basically the same but I thought the 550 is a little better. All the reviews I read are comparing cameras to the 550. That eventually swayed my decision.

If you want to know everything possible about the review of a digital camera just check out
http://www.imaging-resource.com/
Too much info. makes my head spin

One last thing sd400 is a 2" screen. The sd450 & SD550 are 2 1/2" screen

I have the SD500 and I really like it. the size of the screen is fine so I don't need the SD550. The movie mode is great. With any of the cameras, you need to buy a much bigger SanDisk type card.
My camera was $350 from Costco. If I ever get tired of it, they'll take it back, full refund.
