I bought a 95 maristar 225VRS LT1. I have put about 40 hrs on it since I bought it. When I first bought it it steered effortlessly and now it is EXTREMLY difficult to turn left and pretty hard to turn right. I took apart the steering assembly at the wheel and everything is properly lubed and functioning. I cant get to the upper rudder area as it is under the engine and not accessable. It is a single cable design. PLEASE help me out this is driving me nuts!

It will most likely be the cable. Not expensive but can be a pig of a job to do on some v drives.

There should be a grease fitting on the rudder assembly. Try to grease that and if no luck order a cable. Changing my cable took me a morning and had to bend in all sorts of postions to get it on the rudder due to it being under the engine. Was worth it in the end though.

i had a 225 vrs for 4 years and had to grease the rudder every 50 hours. When the boat is not moving you can steer easy and the faster you go the harder it becomes to steer,...rudder if you cant steer even if it is on a trailer etc...cable.

Where is the grease fitting for the cable and the rudder? Is it just a standard grease zerk?
