Boards can get stickier after they wear in. My Jobe Conflict was slicker than snot on the rails when it was new. Might have to hit it with some "Wet n Dry" to freshen it up. OTOH my CTRL RX was sticky as glue from day one.

If you are left foot forward then initially learning behind the boat might be easier. Really depends on the driver and the water conditions. Otherwise the cable is pretty easy. Just a bit more difficult for left footies to navigate the corners ...

What size board is he on now? With that kind of experience he should be able to pick out his own board size just by demoing. Seems to me like a 134 would be about the biggest for his weight.

I think a 140 is definitely too big for a 115 lb person. At this stage either of those boards will be plenty durable for the kid. Once he puts on a few pounds and starts hitting obstacles hard then you might start to worry about durability.

Ear protection with flaps and no board in the head lacerations are a good reason to wear a helmet. I don't buy into the argument that it increases the possibility of concussion. I've never seen any actual data on that. It's likely all conjectur...

The best tip I can think of is just throw the trick. Nothing else works for me. Why not try a regular backroll first?
