david_e_m made a post in this thread: Speaker Issue - Rear Left Stopped WorkingThe Kenwood HU is definitely NOT 2-ohm stable. Unfortunately many of the factory stereos wired two 4-ohm speakers in parallel for a 2-ohm load. The unstable HU would really fall on its face prematurely. Although you wouldn't anticipate this, every...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: 8" or 6.5" tower speaker?Surface area rules in an open field environment and based on surface area one 8-inch speaker is nearly like having two 6.5-inch speakers. Plus, you will undoubtedly have more pod displacement with an 8-inch speaker and that determines the low freq...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: Anyone cut vent hole(s) 4 sub under port dash?Eric,
In order for the vent to be worthwhile it has to have considerable surface area....at minimum equal to the size of the woofer....but given the size of the port locker, ideally the vent should be even larger.
The Bazooka tube sub is sensit...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: 2 12L7's in a MalibuRyan,
You asked a very difficult question to answer. It's not an easy thing to script.
Now that you have been more specific with your situation I can change course and tell you exactly what to do.
The blanket just absorbs energy. You want to av...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: 2 12L7's in a MalibuRyan,
The size of the cavity is a real concern. If the under-helm cavity adjoins to the under-bow seating consoles then it would be ideal to seal that bow compartment off. The larger the cavity the greater the compliance and the greater the absor...

I whittled the whole thing out of a solid chunk of billet and a chunk of acrylic with my buck knife.

david_e_m made a post in this thread: 2 12L7's in a MalibuLet me add another scenario to Phil's example.
Let's say the first woofer is direct radiating into the cockpit. The second woofer is side-firing against the hull and into the under-helm cavity. The second woofer 's phase response is a summation o...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: 2 12L7's in a MalibuJohn,
First you have to get the 12L7 Thiele/Small parameters. You at least need their recommended internal gross enclosure volume. You'll simply double that displacement for two woofers. Phil with Kicker is on here frequently and extremely helpfu...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: Drivers side sub enclosures.Daniel,
That particular enclosure is down-firing so the enclosure was elevated off the sole as much as was possible, but certainly limited. To be honest, it didn't sound as good as it could....but it was what the boat owner wanted as a show piece...

david_e_m made a post in this thread: Drivers side sub enclosures.Pete,
In the two underdash plex sub enclosure pics that I posted, the enclosures and facade are elevated off the sole so that your feet slide under the enclosure for more leg room.
