WakeWorld's 2000 Malibu Wakesetter LSV

As many of you know, the WakeWorld ride since the start of the millenium has been a Malibu Wakesetter Escape/LSV. Back in 2000, we partnered with Malibu Boats and hammered out a deal that has enabled us to get plenty of riding in over the years on one of the best wakeboarding boats ever made. Our LSV has served us well, but now it's time to update our vessel.

In May, we will be taking delivery of the Official Boat of WakeWorld, a 2006 Malibu Wakesetter VLX. This will be the first 2006 VLX off the production line and will get its first use as a model in the 2006 Malibu Boats catalog. The problem we had was that Malibu offered so many color combinations for the gel coat and interior, we couldn't decide what our new VLX should look like.

We requested help from our readers and were overwhelmed with the response. Hundreds visited the Malibu website at malibuboats.com to use their new iSpec 2005 design tool to build their own Malibu. Of course, it helped that we offered the following prizes to help get the creative juices flowing!

• Grand Prize - Inland Surfer wakesurf board of winner's choice
• Second Prize - CWB Deck wakeskate and Jet Pilot wakeskate shoes from Southern California Watersports
• Third Prize - ProTec helmet and WakeTrix DVD from Got River?

Thanks to the proverbial dangling carrot, the folks at Malibu and I spent many hours sorting through boat designs looking for the perfect color combo. At first, I thought we were going to settle on something using a dark blue tone, but my eyes were soon turned toward more of a gray/black combination with a touch of yellow.

Brennan Spear provided the perfect combination between his exterior and interior designs. Brennan will not only pick up the grand prize of an Inland Surfer wakesurf board of his choice, but he'll also get credit for his design in the 2006 Malibu catalog as well as a Malibu prize pack and a WakeWorld t-shirt.

In the "close, but no cigar" category, we had Brad Schatz as the first runner up, grabbing the CWB Deck wakeskate and Jet Pilot shoes from Southern California Watersports as well as a Malibu prize pack and a WakeWorld t-shirt..

We also had Troy Rodvold in the second runner up position taking home a Pro Tec helmet and WakeTrix DVD from Got River? as well as a Malibu prize pack and a WakeWorld t-shirt.

Thanks to everybody that submitted an entry. I know that many of you probably submitted designs similar to those pictured here, but some of the entries were separated by a fine line in the most literal sense. It could of been a strip of trim on the upholstery that was the difference between your submission and the winning submissions.

On top of it all, with the new 2006 Malibu Wakesetter VLX gel coat and interior design, the finished product is going to look very different from those pictured here. I've been sworn to secrecy, but I can tell you that the new look is incredible! Keep an eye on these pages for the first looks at the 2006 Malibu Wakesetter VLX as they wrap up production on this boat in early May.
