Core Wakeskate with available custom graphics and foam traction
|
The first thing that caught my eye about the Core Wakeskate is that there were know outward signs that the board was made by Core, such as their name or logo. Apparently, for an extra fee, Core will allow you to put your own custom graphic on any of their boards. The one I rode had the WakeWorld.com logo emblazoned on the bottom. If you don't want to pay extra to put your own graphic on their boards, you can still choose from any of Core's many graphic options for both the top and bottom of your board.
The deck of Core's skate had a ribbed foam surface. It felt great on my bare feet and
I was able to control it pretty well. It's nice that you don't have to worry about the foam traction tearing up your interior. I think this foam surface would allow you to ride with or without shoes if you want, but if you prefer a skateboard-type grip tape surface, Core offers that option as well.
When I first got on the board behind the boat, I liked how it kept me up on top of the water
and didn't sink very much. I'm 200 pounds and I can really tell the difference between the Cassette that I normally ride and the Core wakeskate. I seem to get tired on the Cassette quicker because I'm compensating for it riding so deep in the water.
The board has a pretty smooth bottom. If you want to edge and cut, the board will respond. If you want to break it loose, its slippery enough to do surface tricks. After riding for a little bit, I was able to do surface 180's and butter slide 180's pretty easily. I was impressed with the control that I was able to get on the board in a short time.
The first time that I charged at the wake for a wake to wake jump I was caught a little by surprise. I guess I didn't expect the board to pop so well. Of the wakeskates I have ridden, I think the Core has the most pop. I was able to go wake to wake easily and get good vertical pop. I was hitting my best air ever on a wakeskate.
Overall, I really liked the board. It seemed to have the whole package. The custom graphics option is a killer idea. Just think if you could put your name or something on the bottom. I can see it now, the "Heavy D" board. The only thing is they should have put the Core name on there somewhere so people know what board they're riding. I would really recommend riding one if you can before you make a decision on a wakeskate. If you can't, who cares? It's a good board and only costs $170, so buy it anyways.
