Yesterday made it almost real, today made it reality. "Outboard Boy" got a NEW boat (some may say FINALLY). We made some "New Best Friends" at SurfExpo and after finding lots of common ground for working together with the boat factory and our local dealer, they worked together to deliver what you see below yesterday afternoon. This afternoon we took the check out ride / maiden voyage after the shrink wrap was removed and it was prepped.

I'm going to hold off on telling what boat it is until we get a tower and some graphics on it but I'll post a picture of the new sled being offloaded from the truck to see if anyone can guess it.

I'm still stunned by this and the ride today was like I was in the twilight zone - I think WOW is about all I can get out right now.

More to come!

Well, judging by the trailer, it isn't a Nautique or Mastercraft......
What kind of tower are you going to put on it?

From The shape of the hull just from the front
my guess is a Tige or a Centurion or a Supra

Looks like a Tige on a Dorsey trailer.

OK, in for a penny, in for a pound: It's a direct drive Wakesetter, and I'll stick with BoatMate.

Got a late start on the tower install so have one more base to do in the morning, then will hit the lake for a little riding and I'll post pic's tomorrow night - a great guess or two above.

Definatly a Malibu, VLX i think.

No, no vlx.... possibly a centurion, front end looks very malibu

By dane (greatdane) on Thursday, September 18, 2003 - 10:57 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Where are the models?

BTW, its a BU-VLX - looks just like my boat in the cover.

Yea I thought it was a VLX from the first look

Tige.

By Shawn Burke (02wakesettervlx) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 7:02 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I don't know what it is, but I don't think it's a Bu. The VLX steps in on the bow near the waterline, and that boat apparently doesn't. I agree that it looks to be a Bu above the rubrail, but I'm going with something from Skier's Choice.

I say Supra

By Jason Craveiro (s4inor) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 3:07 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
It's not a Malibu. I think it's a new Switch. Tige needs a good tower

By Brent Huling (captainfreedom) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 5:00 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
It sure doesn't look like my Tige. There needs to be another line in the hull above where the V starts to be a 22V. Hard to tell, but I don't see a second line.

By Jason Craveiro (s4inor) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 6:06 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Well, it's not a Tige, and it's not a Centurion. It has a bow light, and both of those companies are using hull mounted navigation lights.

I can't imagine Supra or Moomba would stray away from their Rad-a-Cage towers, but the MonsterTower is much more functional.

Come on Bill, when are you going to show us!

By Brent Huling (captainfreedom) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 6:49 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Jason, the Tige's have bow lights. Check my profile pic. The more I look at it, the more it does look like a Tige, I just can't see enough details to tell.

Let's see it!

By Jason Craveiro (s4inor) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 8:04 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
You're right! The Switch boats don't have one, and I just figured that's what it would be.

Well I think that settles it, it's gotta be a Tige, especially since the bow handrails are recessed down (notice that you can't see them in ths e shrink wrap). Mastercraft and Nautique are the only other ones like that off the top of my head.

So when you are you going to unveil this Monster for us?

By Brent Huling (captainfreedom) on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 9:30 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
I haven't seen a Switch up close, so I have no clue on that one. Guess we just have to wait it out.

Drum Roll Please - Rod nailed it - Tige 22V! Surf Expo turned out to be a great show for Monster Tower in several ways.

Got to surf and board behind the new 22V yesterday and I was duley impressed. TAPS, Ballasts, Perfect Pass, 335HP, WOW! Huge thanks to my new best friends at Tige for hooking us up. Brett and Tony really wanted us in a Tige and were great to work with.

I had never even been in a 22V before this Wednesday and now fully understand why the owners rave about them. The handling, wake and finishing details are as good as I've seen. I'm heading back out to the lake now so here's the pictures!

Congratulations Bill, you guys earned it.

Second day riding and still feeling like it's not real. I've had so many peice of crap boats in my life that riding up to a boat dock and having people come check out my ride is kinda freakin me out.

The wake is so amazing. I'm sure we have tons to learn but for me it's been set the PP at 22 mph, hook the line on at 65, fill the tanks and I'm getting some of the biggest faceplants I've ever had. It's going to take a few more days getting used to getting so high. I always heard wait until you get up before starting a rotation but with the OB that was not an option. So I had faith today and tried a W2W-180. Got up, got around, and had like an eternity left before I stuck it in the flats. First thought - I'm really going to like this. Second though was let out a little more line. We are getting the surfing wake better each time we try and I'm really excited about that part of the boats abilities.

OK, Enough, It's like when I got my first dirt bike at 14 - nothing else much mattered for a while. If I was rich I would be kicking the snot out of myself right now for not doing this a few summers ago!

Be prepared, many dumb questions pending. I had a few I/O's many years ago and otherwise many outboards so this is definately a learning experience to figure out all the details.

If you guessed Tige send me your shirt size and a mailing address and I'll hook you up with one really obnoxious T-shirt :-)

Bill

Bill, I guessed Tige and you know my address.

By Bill J (sdboardr99) on Saturday, September 20, 2003 - 7:21 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Bill, just fill up the left rear locker with about 800# of ballast and you'll have a perfect surfing wake - keep TAPS at 8, speed about 10. At least in my 20v I don't need any other weight except the left rear. Speed will vary depending on exactly how much weight and how many people you have in the boat but you should be able to get a wake that looks like this:

Kele surfing

Congratulations on the new boat!

You have a complete Perfect Pass sticker? I have not seen one of those in a long time.

Great Boat!

Bill J - Great advice! We filled the rear left and front left tanks today, put 4 (3 large) people on the left side and had an absolute BLAST wakesurfing. It was beyond words. Growing up in Florida "surfing" a great wave was maybe 10 seconds. We were all throwing the rope back in the boat and going for as long as we wanted. I may have found a new favorite board sport!

Chris - your Gator Grip is greatly anticipated for the boat. Also had to pick up a big roll of grip tape for the trailer. Old rusty trailers provide much better stepping traction than new shiny painted trailers - learned that one the hard way yesterday!

That is the nicest looking tower I have ever seen on a Tige.

By WakeNup (hockeyruss) on Monday, September 22, 2003 - 5:16 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
Congradulations Bill, soon you will be surfing for 10 minutes....we had a little timed wake surf contest yesterday, when it came down to the final 2, we had 7 competing, the record was 2:50 or so, well my sons friend was out for 6:54, at the 5 minute mark, my son broke out the hot water shower and started squirting his friend in the legs, then face. It was all out war!!! Joey (the friend) survived and set the record! It was really funny. At one point he surfed right up to the platform and we handed him a soda. It was a real fun weekend. I let my 15 year old and about 8 of his friends take the boat alone Saturday, and I went out with them on Sunday.

So Bill, is Monster going to be the next factory tower on Tige'.....it should be, looks great and I am sure it is one of the strongest towers available today.

Bill,

You can also lay down some of that Gator Grip on your trailer. I did the same for my fenders and it's working out great.

WakeNup - A duration contest for the wakesurfing, let the competition begin! We will definately be bring a stopwatch on the boat. No factory relationship with Tige but I like the way your thinking!

Chris - If I had a shop full of Gator Grip I could definately find a ton of uses! It would be great for the trailer. I went low budget for now and used a roll of anti-skid on the few places on the trailer I saw additional danger in. Nice, painted trailers sure are slick when wet!

Hey Bill, are you going to be bringing the boat down to Orlando for Worlds?

By Monster Tower (monstertower) on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 - 6:53 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
That's in a few weeks at OWC if I remember correctly? We are in the middle of a move and have a bunch of new stuff we are trying to get into production so it's not on the shedule. We wanted to but could not pull it off. I plan to take it down to O'town this winter a few times to ride since the water temp here gets down into the 50's and it's painful for us older guys even in a drysuit.

By Tim Krutz (timmy) on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 - 7:22 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
bill, if you need to take the boat down to FL in the winter (or to do a photo shoot with breanne) you are more than welcome to make a stop here in gainesville. it is right on the way to o'town.

my leg should be healed in time for some winter wakesurfing.

I may have to make a week of it. I lived in Gainesville 7 years (takes some of us longer than others to graduate) and love to get back to Burrito Brothers. Always loved O'town and am looking forward to riding some lakes there!
