well everyone, I got a new ACME prop for my 98 Nauti and want to install it today. i do not have a prop puller. does anyone have any advice or done this without one? thanks alot.

i searched again and couldnt find much on not using a puller. anyone have any advice? im in Del Rio, TX so there is NOTHING here, dont know if i could find a puller. thanks.

I just switched out an acme 817 (mine is a taper shaft). To remove the dinged up one I used a 2x4x3 piece of wood and a rubber mallet. Remove the cotter pin and back off the nut(leave the nut on the shaft to stop the prop from flying off). Place the wood on the prop(as close to the shaft as possible) and beat on it with the mallet until it comes free.

Go to an auto parts place and rent or buy a 2-3 jaw puller (depending on number of blades on your prop). it pulls the prop off by pushing against the shaft, just like a prop puller does. It can get a little tight near the rudder, but it will work.

I read on a thread hear one time about someone using a couple of paint can openers. I've never used this method so I cannot comment.

thanks for all the info guys. i beat on it for a long time so to speak, but no dice, so i went to autozone and rented a gear puller. worked! thanks again.
