Clay asked yesteday. Hey how much Carbon Fiber you have. I said not that much enough to do a few small projects but nothing big, He said well Good luck getting some more it's in short supply.
WTF is this true, I go searching the net for some info and YES its true
It says the goverment and Air bus is using up a large quanity of the carbon supply.
I did some more searching and found other larger composet supplyers with the same story. No Carbon for now.
Sounds like a business opportunity.
Sound Like a ENRON scam to me. Im callin BS
This totally isn't a scam, the aircraft manufacturers are totally getting squeezed right now. I am involved in the industry in a sort of roundabout way, but I have heard this from many people who are surrounded by aircraft on a daily basis. I heard this year was virtually sold out and next year doesn't look much brighter.
I had the same issue some 6 weeks ago and then found some Carbon Kevlar. It's a little pricy but I'll show ya at the spring ride what I'm doin with it.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the extra 18" wide strip of 45 feet J/K
Duane How unlike you to talk about somthing and not be able to show.
He might show you in 2007.
Grant, sorry but I admit to having no skills with this stuff. I'm one of those that watch you, Clayton and others do your magic but patient for the finished product. back at you
OMG, Lee Tudor, repin the 615, what's up?
haha we are using it sukkas!
Duane, Just been showing off some Tyrants.
Lee, any resources in TN for Carbon fiber?
Tim, Aircraft? what part? if you can.
As long as we have amps, plexi glass, and LEDs we are good to go!
Hey Grant - for decorative purposes, check out this "aluminized fiberglass"
I was toying with the idea of building a fiberglass towerbox with a Carbon fiber last layer. But now I can not because of supply. (well, and skill level too ) I should have bought the Carbon Fiber in October when I was thinking about it. Now I'm considering using this aluminized stuff.. Looks kind of neat.
btw: Carbon Fiber is still available on E-bay.
Howard Wicklander Works in a Composite lab and deals with the stuff Im wondering how his buisiness is doing. And or other Hy tec company's that are not able to get the stuff.
Duane: You need somthing made let it be know'n Ill get it done. BACK at you
Thanks. I'll give you a call tomorrow.
My project should be about done. I'll certainly post a pic or two when it's time.
OK, can I give a Hell_ Ya_! for http://boatbeats.com
Lots of carbon fiber will be shown!
Grant, did I mention that the extra fiber that I have is not an all black weave?
I built some stuff out of carbon/kevlar and it's got some cool properties. Kevlar's really good at absorbing vibration and if your part gets crunched, it's the epoxy that's crunched, not the fabric - you just pull the deal back into shape and then hit it with a thin super glue.
It's also cheaper and lighter than all carbon and has a really distinctive look.
Grant there's tons of carbon in the warehouses. It just has a tag that say's Boing on it.
Duane, gas turbines. jsf stuff right now.
Phaeton, how it going. You do mean BOEING
aka, Spirti, Mitsubitchi(sp) Heavy, etc. The 787 is going to use a bunch.
Airfreak yes I did mean Boeing oops!
Things are going great. With the new job I get to ride almost every week. Love that.
I had heard something about a new product called "buckypaper" that is supposed to put carbon fiber and titanium to shame. Has anyone else heard of this stuff or have any other info? The reason I ask is this stuff is supposed to "revolutionize the aircraft industry" per a recent study I found regarding future machine shop issues (tooling etc.).
buckypaper? What is it geodesic dome paper?
