not finished yet, but off to a good start.
- Ebay speaker cans - $100
- Polk db675 - $80
- Monster Clamps - $80
- MTX 4202 amp - $50
- Pioneer DEH-P480MP HU - $121
Malibu owners will know what those last two pics are about. Took about an hour to get those two speakers out.
Dude, are those cans considered ballast? What do those bad boys weigh?
Same cans I have, they are actually really light, fairly thin aluminum. Interesting to see them with Monster clamps.
Why so long to remove those two?? Looks like you need a snap-on mini screwdriver about an inch tall.
cause u need to take the windsheild off to get to them...
i had my whole stereo stolen bout 2 yrs ago. 02 vlx. they took everything. amps, racks, batteries, steering wheel.subs, only thing they left.. were those 2 speakers.. lol.. grrrr
It's hard to see that from the pic. Sorry to hear you got JACKED Skydog. Sounds like someone had a vlx that needed you're part's.
Where did you get the speakers? Also from Ebay? Great price.
Sorry about getting Jacked!!!!!!!!! Not cool.
wiring check
is this the correct way I need to wire these up ?
That'll give you a 2 Ohm load on your amp..
No, according to the MTX manual, that amp is not stable at 2ohms in bridged mode. You'll fry the amp.
This would give you ~100 watts RMS total -- or 50 watts per speaker..
You can wire them normally (not bridged) but you're still going to get 50 watts per speaker.
An hour to get the dash speakers out! damn it.. I want to pull my cheese ball sony xplods... maybe I'll leave them in for looks and clip the wires on the back.
hmm, then how is it possible to get 100 watts x 2 into a 2 ohm load as the manual says you can.
Would this require different a different speaker setup or what ?
The amp is a two-channel amp. Your rating go as follow:
Probly 50 x 2 @ 4 ohms
100 x 2 @ 2 ohms
and Probly 200 X 1 at 4 ohm
The amp is probly only 4 ohm stable in mono configuration. If you want your amp to see 2 ohms stereo then you need to add two more speakers.
Clint- You could have removed the whole window as one and saved yourself a bunch of time, instead of turning the srewdriver about a 1/16 of a turn each time. How do I know this? I used to own an older Malibu with the speaker mounts like this. Then I found the eaiser way to do it.
|
could have removed the whole window as one
|
the idea of this scared the crap out of me, so 1/16 turns I went.
The manual says
"100 Watts x 2 into a 2 Ohm Load" That'd look like either of these:
to maximize that amp, you may want to do this: (this way, each speaker will still see 50 Watts of power, but you'll have 4 speakers seeing 50 watts, verse just two seeing 50 Watts - so the volume should double..?..)

alright, well the plan is to eventually have 4 tower speakers so it is good to know that I can get the same out of this amp with 4 as it will be with the 2 for now. Thanks for the info.
Gonna be a few weeks till I get a chance to finish everything up, rain this last weekend really slowed us down.
finished up
