On the little plate fastened to the top of the PCM engine in my Super Air, it suggests I use SAE 40 W40 "SG" rated oil. No boat place that I've gone to has any idea what this is, and of course my dealer has no clue either. Does any one know anything about SAE 40 W40 "SG" rated oil?

sg, standard grade? Just a guess. I don't think they want you to use synthedic.

It is straight 40 wt. (not multi-viscosity) oil. Sg is a rating that I believe has been surpassed by SL. Penzoil, Castrol, Havoline all have it. Pep Boys, O'Reily, Autozone.....all should have it.

Alternatively, you could use Mobil 1 15w50 w/o problems, but PCM recommends straight weight oils, at least for the GT40.
I will switch to Mobil 1 after I reach 50 hrs.

Check out http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl991.htm for some of the definitions to acronyms.

The motor is designed to run straight 40 weight, I use Chevron Delo 40w in mine. I take the time to warm my boat, if you don't then you should consider a multi-grade.
