I was wondering if anyone thought of using epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth for the surface of their slider. Epoxy is really strong and wont crack like polyester resin. Epoxy will bond with the wood. Epoxy would create a good sliding surface and it does not absorb water. It would be fairly cheap in comparison to HDPE slider material.

Anyone think this is a bad idea?

A lot of labor? I have done lots of fiberglass work before, this would be really easy.

just make sure whatever you are bonding it to is PT and made well. there was a kicker here done like that and the whole top peeled back from the water line up. It was great while it lasted though.
