I need some help as whenever i try to go big and do some grabs, i seem to do a 180 in the air unintentionally and then wipe out really hard. HOw do I keep my body straight in the air? I'm guess handle position is the problem here but any tips would be appreciated. |

yep. I'd say keeping the handle close to your lead hip will help you out alot |
|
keep your lead hand on the handle. |
|
Just land the 180s. |
|
agreeing with jeff about the handle at the lead hip, as well as ron w/ the 180s |
|
yeah, it's hard to land it when it happens unexpectedly! my buddies all thought i was trying it on purpose though. Thanks for the tips. So, coming in heelside riding left foot forward, i should keep the handle on my left hip and also do grabs with the right hand correct? I've been trying to grab with the left which probably is why i'm spinning. |

A lot of people don't realize that when you reach for a grab, you naturally move your other hand. Some let the handle out, some pull it in (which is what you should do) and some move side to side which is what makes you spin your 180. Focus on keeping the handle at your knee or hip when you grab. It should keep you from spinning and it looks a lot better. Nothing ruins a killer grab and poke shot like poor handle position. |

Grabbing with your right hand and holding the handle with your left hand should solve your problem. You could try just doing some wake to wakes just letting go with your right hand and not grabbing for practice. |
|
Keep going with the 180's. You're already half way there. Learn it regular next. |

On a regular heeside wake to wake grab, I would work on an indy or tail grab. Keep your left or lead hand on the handle towards the middle of your torso with your arm bent slightly (not completely extended as this will lead to problems)try and bring the board to your hand as well as the hand towards the board, Keep your eyes on the tower or horizon and go for it. It also helps to ride with new people instead of the same crew every time... hint, hint. |

I also ride regular and and on my HS grabs I can use my left hand MUCH easier than my right. Melan is tasty cake for me now and Nose is pretty solid. Indy is getting there finally, but I get the tail only once/year All of this to say that I think sometimes grabbing with the left hand feels more natural to some people, just make sure to push the handle towards the nose of your board instead of letting it drift towards the tail...as this should prevent the 180. |

start grabbing with your back hand. BUT, you want to understand how handle position moves you in the air. So I think grabbing with front hand soon can help you figure it out. learn to control it and bring it back shifty. start grabbing front hand and make sure you keep it across your body. |

Brett, got the hint, just sent you an email. Thanks for all the tips! Will keep you posted on how it went! |
