Are there any thin (competition style) vests that incorporate a back support system, I know of some CGA vests that have them. Also, are these systems legit? Are there any on-water alternatives besides the obvious...exercise/streching?

The same company that makes the vest with the back support built in also makes just the back support belt by itself. I have one and it will easily fit under a comp style vest. If it is just your lower back muscles hurting then it wont help(hit the gym), but if it is your spine then it will help some. The best things are just the obvious: strech, exercise, and ride more and maybe a visit to the back doctor here and there.
