I learned last night that a young kid (not sure of age) close to my area had an accident while wakeboarding. Somehow the board flew back and hit him in the throat. He has a collapsed trachea and the doctors are not sure at this point if he is going to live. I don't know all the details and hope I'm relaying accurate information. If anyone knows any more details, please share. My prayers go out to him and his family.

i just heard a little more info...

his name is andrew hudson and he's from the florala area... he did get hit with the board and from the sounds of it most of his neck was crushed, lungs were collapsed and he was placed in a drug induced coma. he's doing much better now and is off of life support. he's communicating by dry erase board. the good news is the possibility of brain damage at the this point is slim. let's all keep him in our prayers!

The guy's name is Andrew Hudson from Florala, Alabama. He is 19 yrs old. The accident happened in Tuscaloosa. His board hit him directly in the throat He is doing much better now,but he will have to undergo several surgeries to correct the damage that has been done to his trachea, esophagus and larnyx. I will be going to visit him this afternoon. I will update everyone tomorrow.

So sorry to hear about this......best wishes and prayers to Andrew.

That's a freak accident, but I could see it as a more common incident on a wakeskate. Never thought about injury to the throat like that.

Wow that really is a freak accident. How in the world did that happen. Ive been lucky not to have any instances with the board comming back and hitting me. Although I have had the wakesurf come back and hit me on the head.
