My son wants a waterproof case for his IPOD Mini. I found info on two - one from Otterbox that runs around $40-$50 and one from H2O Audio that runs around $130-$140. The info says the H2O Audio is good to about 10ft deep and comes with waterproof headset. The Otterbox is good to 3-4ft and does not include the waterproof headset. Anyone have any experience with either of these? I need to decide which to get soon. Thanks.
Wakeshoe ~ I have an otterbox and will sell it for $20. Never used it.... hell I don't even have an IPOD. Man I need to get with the times.
I need to check if it's the right one for you. I just looked at the website and it might be for the bigger one.
H2o doesn't make a case for the mini.
I would be interested in seeing what the headphone connection to the otter box is like.
I have the H20 Audio case for the mini-ipod and the headphone connection is fairly robust and I've never had problems with it.
Maybe that's why there's a $90 difference in price. Does Otter even sell the waterproof- headphones?
Hey Hahn... are you thinking the "nano"... ?
Here's the mini-case
Correction, they make one for the mini not the nano.
Fu ~ I'll take a pic tonight for you and post it here.
Fu ~ Check out the website. There are a few pics of the top.
Ant - Thanks.. I finally found a decent pic online.
My only concern would be the headphone connection.
I've been using the H20 case for the iPod Mini, have no experience with the Otterbox case.
I have the following issues with it:
1. The selection/scroll wheel doesn't work well. Forget trying to browse albums once you're in the water. It's not that big a deal, I just select the album I want before I get in the water and unpause once I'm up and riding, it is annoying though.
2. The headphone ear buds suck. They're so bad, I can't believe they released the product with them. Following the recommendation of some reviewers on Amazon, I ended up ordering some slic sound ear buds and they work much, much better: http://www.slicsound.com/ss001.asp
3. This brings me to the final issue: sound quality. Yep, it sucks donkey balls, even with the slic sound ear buds. It's the crappy headphones.
Overall, love the concept, but the execution is rather poor.
ok I checked and it's not the right one for you. Sorry. It fits the 20,30,40, and 60gb.
Here is a link
If any one wants it $20 or...
If any of my GOOD friends could use it, just let me know.
I have the H20 audio case and.... if listening to tunes while your riding is the name of the game, then it gets the job done...
With that said, as alan has said above, it does have some issues, but all in all, now i can listen to music where I never could before.
All in all a very cool product.. and super fun to use..
Quick note.. my click wheel workds fine in my case.. try pushing down in the middle of the case .. on both sides of the click wheel before you lock it down, that usualy helps.
i've got an H20 one for the mini i'd be willing to sell for $100 plus shipping if anyone's interested. i won it and never used it because i have a 20GB.
Whats crackin barret... how are things goin down there in the warm state
Ant - If it's still available, I'm on it.
shawn ~ it's all yours. I'll bring it with me next Saturday.
Damn your quick! Thanks bro!
Hey Joshua,
I tried pushing down on the middle of the case with both thumbs when closing and the wheel is much more responsive when closed that way. I tried it a bunch of times and it worked every time. Thanks bro, that method is a keeper..
i would be will in to buy that barrett. i sent you a private message, but if you don't get it my email is firstname.lastname@example.org
Hey josh! things are good... i just broke my arm on sunday though so i'm out for 5 weeks. how are things out there?
shane, i e-mailed you.
broken arm??? Bummer.. oh well.. spend some time on an indo board.. and heck.. you could skate with one arm right - your a freakin animal!! Hope you get better soon
how about a cover for the i pod video?
aaron ~ check out the otterbox website. They make covers for all Ipods.
if anyones tries the otterbox solution, i'd love to hear their impressions..
wonder if for third of the price the otterbox case is as good or better than the H2O solution..
reading the reivews on the otterbox though, i now realize that all waterproof mp3 player manufacturers had problems with sounds quality..
first company to solve the sound quality problem will get me to spend more money (i'm now addicted to having my tunes with me on the water)..
Try the Liquid Tunes... sound quality is almost as good as my stock ear buds
Are you talking about the whole Liquid Tunes player or just the earbuds?
the whole system, the player, withe the waterproof earbuds
Check out the shred ready waterproof head phones that attache to their helmets., will work with the H20 Audio system or with the LF MP3 player. Much better sound.
the can can earflaps are what your looking for.
