9pm Central, It will feature Rilys Ebert a CWB Team rider and a girl from his school who picked him to teach her to wakeboard. Should be good.

By Kelli (kmreastcoast) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 3:43 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
i just checked mtv.com and it said 10 pm ET/PT....so im not too sure if that means its 10 on the east coast or pacific...but im pretty sure its 10 on the east coast cuz thats where im from and i used to be able to watch it after i got out of work at 9. also, on mtv.com it said tonights episode was about mary who wants to be made into a cheerleader. i didnt see anything about the wakeboarding

By David Williams (wakeworld) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 3:46 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Yeah, I forgot to mention that's on satellite. I keep forgetting that I'm "abnormal."

By Melissa (melissad) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 3:58 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Dave, you're not abnormal, you're just *smart*

The cheerleading one was last week so wakeboarding should be today.

By njskier (njskier) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 5:08 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
I just checked, east coast time is 10 pm.
And it's wakeboarding.

Thanks for the heads-up chris smith!

i just watched it and its not too great. its more about this chick trying to get a boyfriend and fit in than wakeboarding.

I heard a few statments in there that were riduculous.. including the following....
"I feel like a real wakeboarder now.... I cant wait to go back to school"
No wakeboarders including me have said something like that!

It just ended and I have got to say, it's great our sport got some national exposure on MTV but I personally don't think it portrayed our sport very well. I'd prefer to see our exposure in a little different light. I wasn't that impressed, but then again it was on MTV. Don't get me wrong, glad to see our sport in the spotlight. I just think that you could get the wrong impression about our sport from that show and that girl. She was a little ditzy and immature. Hopefully people don't stereo type wakeboarders with that impression in mind! I think our sport needs more national attention in a better format, that's all I'm saying.

By Duane Wheeler (wakebordr11) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 8:13 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
I think that was more wakeboarding coverage than the X-games gives us... pretty foolish girl but its cool she learned w2w, dont know many (any?) girls that can do that in my area

By Matthew Peterman (mattprt) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 8:18 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
I was hoping for the first wakeboarding commercial. I guess Hyperlite and Gator didnt have enough to shell up for MTV :-( It was pretty entertaining though The Barbasol sportn was the best.

The girl was an idiot. If they thought she could do a tantrum after 4 weeks I wanna be made too!

By Paul Bernier (wakeriderixi) on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 - 8:41 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
She took second place away from someone that might have deserved it more.... thats all I was pissed about! At the same time though... good for her! Wakeboarding helped her grow and mature..

I haven't seen a made episode where someone wanted to be made for their own satisfaction. It was always because they were trying to get someone else to like them. lame.

i wanna be made into a music producer and be the next dame dash-

that aside, i though she did well. I wish I could learn w2w in 4 weeks. Hell, I wish I could learn w2w period. As mentioned in a previous post, she was a bit immature, but hey, she is still in high school- Just glad it wasn't about tap dancing or cheerleading. There was one a while back about BMX that was pretty cool.

It needed more wakeboarding and less drama. The amount of actual riding she did was like half of the amount of crying and saying things like "those kids are so cool and rich and i'll never fit in with them". But I guess you really have to blame the editors for that, not the girl.

there was some good footage of riding, but all the "don't have a tantrum." drama was THUPER!

By doctor octagon (dococ) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 1:01 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I did not watch it, but my wife said the wakeboard pro/instructor-guy came off looking like a poser a-hole. She's hung with numerous pros from both wake and snow, and generally she has nice things to say about people, so I'm wondering what was up with this guy. Not like I'll lose any sleep over it, but it's too bad if that is the impression that is left upon the mainstream audience.

That Riley dude looked pretty good. Her tantrum attemps were better than mine I havent even attempted it yet.......

By Jeffrey Zukowski (zuka666) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 4:11 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I don't know what you folks thought, but that riley guy was as ditzy as the high school girl, props to the girl for taking the abuse that she did, mentally and physically, and you know she did...Hey, this is a tough sport. It's all or nothing, she should be given props for giving it a 100%.. She cleaned the head for christ sakes! Enough said!

By Shane (wakebrdrnc) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 4:57 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
That chick sucked. She reminded me of the girl the girl on Deuce Bigalo with terets(sp?). And no way she gave 100%. She would not even try the tantrum after se fell a few times. But it is cool to see the sport get some props.

Now that I have Fuel channel... MTV can kiss my ass. All their shows suck. PS. If I hear "stoked" or "amped" from one more poser wanna be wakeboarder, I'm gonna... keep being annoyed.

By Alex Kinon (nj_alex) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 5:45 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I was stoked to see wakeboarding on national tv. Actually, I'm still amped over the whole thing.

By Jon (jon4pres) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 6:30 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I thought it was pretty good. It was about her being made into a more confident person as well as a wakeboarder. I was amazed at how much confidence it gave her and how fast she picked it up. I thought it was a good show.

By Karl De Looff (boarditup) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:03 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I thought using the Texas INT competition was good for our sport. If you had another high school kid in the same boat, they may not be as scared to give wakeboarding a try. Nobody likes to lose and embarass themselves. The chick showed that you can learn to ride and compete in a short period of time and not be a gifted athlete.

Hopefully she will stick with it and compete againg next year in the INT. It would be a good follow-up for MTV, benefit the sport, and benefit the INT.

By Randy (dudeman) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:04 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
Between switching back and forth from that crap and the Cardinals getting their butt handed to them, the night was a total waste. The only saving grace was I only watched about 20 minutes of the wakeboarding soap opera. Right up until she made some cookies for Riley. That's what I'm thinking a 15-16 year old boy wants, cookies.

By adam Curtis (acurtis_ttu) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:10 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
Don't forget that girl is in high school. Hate to pull a Dr phil---but isn't that what most high schoolers wanna do is fit it. Take a look back at half the stupid s_it you did in high school....you were tryin to fit in, weather you think that or not, your tryin to fit in.
Bill Garcia is a pro rider based out of Austin, Texas...He has a wakeboard school down there.

By Ronia Nash (ladythump) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:19 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
For only 4 weeks of riding, and learning all those tricks (including w2w with grabs) THE GIRL DID AWESOME! She has never done any water or board sports before. Don't diss her, SHE DID AWESOME!

By Chris White (ccwhite) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:27 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
Billy G (Garcia) is one of the local pros and instructors here in Austin. Ive been out with him and took my family out for a weeks worth of instruction with him. Hes a great down to earth guy and I have no problems telling anybody else that if they wanted to get lessons, they could do much worse than going to his school.

I laughed the whole way through it, but thats because I know Billy, Monique and Bianca (the dog). MTV, being MTV, probably took what made things look the best for their target viewers (15-18yr old kids) and edited it that way. So its unfortunate that we saw tons of 'riley' drama.

But, still cool for her to pull a W2W indy in just 4 weeks. Ive been riding for just over a year now and finnaly got my grabs down sollid this summer.

By Ronia Nash (ladythump) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:34 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
Did anyone notice that dog with everywhere?

By the way, I just checked the Texas INT site and according to their stop standings .... Joan came in third out of three, not second. hmmmm....

By Matthew Bird (ldr) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 7:48 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
I don't know why most seem to be so down on this girl. I think she did awesome for the short amount of time that she had to prepare.
Paul, who said she got second at the expense of some other girl? For riding in Novice and seeing what she did, i think second place was legit. The good thing about our sport is that it helps people gain confidence which can transfer over into other aspects of their lives. Seeing her in the beginning i thought, this girl is a spaz but by the end yu could tell that she handled herself much better. And she definately dressed better.
My $.02

I fully agree with Matthew. So what if she learned confidence on national TV? Wakeoarding has certainly helped my confidence level in other aspects. I guarantee if I was filmed at 15 I'd be a zillion times dorkier then Joan was at first.

By bill montanye (bill) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 10:48 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
im with Matt you guys who are down on her dont remember how it really was first starting out..she did great ,actually she did more then great she had more pressure IE cameras, coaches, friends and haters watching her every step while learning and in 5 weeks came in second under pressure at a contest..she definitly can be considered a wakeboarder now..at her rate by the end of her first season she could probrably hit a tantrum and a spin even if she doesnt shes doing better now then some who have been riding a more then a year......

By Paul Bernier (wakeriderixi) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 10:58 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
..... Yea Matt and the rest are right. Maybe it was jealousy?!!! Maybe I was mad it was on MTV?!!! Who knows, she did good! I do however get the vibe still that she wont continue, she just didn't seem that intrested in wakeboarding for wakeboarding.

I wondered if the so-called rich kids that talked to her, talked to her for her or talked to her just to get on MTV. (like the girl with the jetski and the hunky boy)

By Pete (mnrider) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 11:52 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
Its too bad that a crap show like that will be the only time wakeboarding is seen on MTV for a while if not ever. The chick was descent for only riding for a couple of weeks, but that was overshadowed by the corny "I don't fit in with that crowd" subplots. grade: d-

I didn't see it but it sounds like it exposed a "core" audience to wakeboarding. Maybe it will influence programmers to show more of it.

"The dog is Bianca (Moniques dog). She does take it everywhere. Ive even seen her dye it pink!"

Girls carry these little dogs everywhere as a fashion accessory, not a pet. Annoying.

Thank Paris Hilton for another useless cultural contribution.

I missed the show last night, but it doesn't sound like I missed much. I've been riding for almost 2 yrs. and still haven't nailed my w2w, so it sounds like she picked up on the sport pretty quick. You guys should check out FUEL TV. The PULL episodes have been the most watched shows lately Alliance said. Maybe because they show our sport how it is; no fake drama attached.

Did anyone actually think she was going to land a tantrum? I think they should've taught her a 180 first...

By Mike B (fubar) on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 3:54 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
I thought she might have landed a tantrum - there was that one chick on another Made episode that landed a bmx back flip. Of course, practicing into a foam pit on the bike is much closer to the real trick than practicing on a trampoline with the handle, as you don't have all the other factors, like the kick off the wake, moving at 22mph, etc.

Division Name: WB Women Novice
Stop First Name Last Name Place Tour Points
3 Stephanie Britt 1 1025
3 Joan Uyvari 2 925
3 Nik Gregory 3 835

I think you looked at the day before

Mike B (fubar) It's funny how people find BS to point out and bitch about that they don't know anything about. Moni had Bianca way before the stupid "simple life" show and treats her as her child not an accessory.

get over it... the show was on Mtv, it was about a kid that didn't fit in, she found a common bond with the people she goes to school with, she picked it up very fast (they only rode three days a week), and most important she feels better about herself.

Over all it was a good thing for the industry. It was by far the longest wakeboarding segment I've seen on any mainstream channel.

jeff 2 (waterdog2) stop being so paranoid and looking over your shoulder for black helicopters (just kidding) there were some small "creative influences" by the producer but it's not totally scripted. Sometimes they would tell BG to "say that again, but say it like this" & as far as Joan goes... that was all Joan.

although I did wonder if the kids at LT spray painted the goat or Mtv did to create drama... lol

as far as her sticking with it... so far we've seen her go ride at the Texas Ski Ranch with some buddies and she went to a couple of comps by herself as well. I think she'll keep riding. You all know, Once you start you can't stop!!!

Thanks Stone.

People need to realize that the show was geared for Mtv's high school demographics. Made is a show about high schoolers who don't fit in and MTV helps them accomplish something which makes them feel better about themselves. The show isn't about wakeboarding, or whatever other sports the kids want to be made into.

I was thoroughly impressed with Joan being able to go w2w with grabs in just 4 weeks! It took me (and many other riders) two years to do that.

I dont want to take anything away from Joan, because she did awesome for only riding 5 weeks, But did anyone else think it was wierd thats she said she felt better because she had a "wakeboard haircut"

I'm just relieved to see the cocked trucker hat and the mandatory "can't ever take a picture without flashing some sort of pseudo gang-sign hand signal." Man, that's real wakeboarding for me!! Never gets old!!

(BTW, I live in Oakland. The gangs here actually don't flash a lot of hand signals. They are more busy robbing and shooting people. For every real gang member I've seen flashing a hand sign, I've probably seen 1000 or more teenage suburban middle-upper class kids doing it. I'm just not really understanding this any more.)

Sorry to get off topic. On with the fashion and conformity, er... I mean wakeboarding.

She did good for only riding for 5 weeks, but the hair thing was weird. lol. You don't need "wakeboarding hair" to be a wakeboarder.

alright. she might have gotten second. But i happen to be good friends with Nick Gregory and he's definitley a guy. The kid goes to McNeese State and can rip a wake aprt like nobodies business. i dont know how or why he's on the womens novice list. he usually rides advanced or outlaw. but its funny to see his name on there.

I don't see how some of you could criticize her. she got up her first try. (on the show monique said she's never seen anyone do that before) I've been out with some friends who are very athletic and they couldn't even get up their first day let alone first try.

if I were her I would of made Riley some pot brownies, she would have definitly fit in...

By Randy (dudeman) on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 - 7:32 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
I think Monique was giving her a vote of confidence saying she's never seen anyone get up on the first try before. I have never not gotten up including the first try and I'm an old ass peep. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. My first year was probably just stubborness and pure strength without any technique, but it didn't seem that hard. Never even shot out to the outside of the wake which I've heard is common with beginners.

Getting up on the first try is not the norm. I've seen young strong athletic guys struggle to to get to the point of frustration. And at the same time I've seen not nearly so athletic females pop right up after 1 or 2 tries.

In my experience girls seem to have the edge on the initial try, but the guys make up for lost ground pretty quickly thereafter.

I hope my gf can do it (i just bought her the double up serina) she's tried it at the cables and couldn't do it, she's only tried once there. hopefully she'll be able to get it behind the boat.

I dont think getting up has as much to do with athletic ability as is does with the driver...and the one teaching...the teaching is a huge thing...i was blessed enough to start behind an xstar and have a dude that shredded teach me everything...going wake to wake and grabbing within 5 weeks isnt hard to do when you have a teacher as pumped about teaching you as he is about ridding...

maybe she got up on her first try because of the majic of television

who ever said you had to post on this website to be "into" the wakeboarding scene? i know a ton of people who love wakeboarding who dont post on here. its just something she doesnt do

Guys have a harder time getting up on the first try because you all try to use all your muscles instead of just relaxing and letting the boat pull you up.

What up! Hey this is Joan, the wakeboarding chick on MTV. Yeah, I found this bulletin by accident and it was a lil weird reading all of yall's comments... A little offended, and it was noticeable that yall can really spread a good amount of crap over the web. But it's all good. I noticed quite a few questions concerning the show, and if any1 wants the real answers you can hit me up at http://www.myspace.com/MTVwakechick

Thanks to the ppl who were awesome and stuck up for me!

joan do you still wakeboard? is your sister pissed that you got made and she didn't? you should come try out the cable lake at TSR (I think thats where the girl took you to get some gear)

By Joan (flojo) on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 10:28 am:    Edit Post Delete Post
lol!!! Dude... I totally went to TSR!! It was freakin awesome!! Riley and I went on a "date" there you could say lol!!! Yup, got all the clothes at TSR!!! LOOOVVEEE THEM!!

Ya, the board thing sorta sucked!!! Gator sent that board for me on the show, but my director did it her own way. I wasn't too pissed that I don't have it now just because I didn't know that I was supposed to keep it. Now that I know that....ugh, sorta sux lol!! But its in good hands now lol!! Billy G. has the board at his riding school here in Austin. Its good to know that some other girl is going to learn how to wakeboard with that board.

One day when my director wasn't filming on the boat, Monique, Billy G., and I went riding. I got my first heel side w2w indy on the Gator Board!! It was soo sick!!! ...and none of it was on camera lol!!!!

Have a happy turkey day!!

HAHA!! Dude.... she def shouldn't be jealous!!! It really isn't every day that you have a coach and MTV following you!! Trust me...if she had enough pressure she'd learn twice as fast!! lol!! But that's so cool tho!! Tell her I said hi!! And, if she wakeboards tell her... Rock on!
