The Alpha is a lace-up and the ultra is a slip-on. The comfort dependant on you. I just got the Ultras and I love them (They fit tight, but still give some play in the ankles so you're not completely locked down.), but I have heard nothing but good things about the alpha boot. Try them on, and if you can demo them and find out what feels better for you.

tried both and bought the ultras... I was already riding 00 ultras and thought they had more hold... with the alphas, I wasn't able to get them tight enough over the heel unless I would use 2 sets of laces... but if you want a binding that wont take forever to break in and easy to get into, the alpha's your #1 choice... if you're ready to sacrifice some time to break them in and a little ease of entry to get killer hold, go with the ultras and you wont be deceived...
