Steve,

How's the truck ride with your drop? I recently purchased some 20's and am planning a 3/5 drop on my Suburban.

By chuck j (wake_eater) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 7:26 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
this is ridiculous-- "lets brag about all of our shizzle". most of it is "lets brag about my dad's toys". c'mon man, if u have nice stuff--that's great & i'm sure you already know it's nice without anyone telling you.

By Steve (kingskrew) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 7:38 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Sean,
Rides really good, but airbags are totally different than a 3/5 drop. If you are planning an axle flip in the back, definitely put in a c-notch and get some good drop-shocks front and back (doetsch makes great shocks for lowered chevys). The c-notch will give you the clearance to the frame so you wont bottom out while trailering. What year sub do you have? I have a set of eibach 2.5" drop springs for 88-99 chevy if you're interested.

Chuck,
Whats the deal man? Corey just wants to see some people's setups. I don't really have anything to brag about my ghetto rides, except that they're not "my dad's toy's". Why would you click on a thread all about showing off pics and info about trucks/boats, and then get all pissy when people do just that? Next time just skip the thread...

Sean,
Also (from experience) I would run 45 series tires on your rims to prevent f**king them up on potholes and stuff. My first set of tires (255-35-20) wrecked my front rims in the first 2-3 months. I now run 275-45-20's and have had no problems since the switch.

steve,
that's pretty good advice. i guess i was just in the wrong mood when i intially looked at the thread. there's nothing wrong with pride in ownership & as much as we pay, we had better be proud!!

By Sean (aircanada) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 8:04 pm:    Edit Post Delete Post
Steve,
My tires are 285/50/20 Goodyear Eagle GTII's and I've been very happy with them. I do 95% of my driving on the highway and the ride is much quieter now. I also bought a set of BFG AT's and had them mounted on my old factory rims for trips to Tahoe in the winter, etc. Mine is a 4x4 so I think I might be limited in my options when it comes to the drop. Any adverse effects towing with a lowered truck?

Chuck,
I think it's more pride than bragging. People work hard for their toys and are proud to show them off a little.

i agree, that's exactly what i said in my second post.

Sean,
You should throw some pix up here of your rides, especially after you drop the sub. I think you're right about the 4x4 being limited on options. If I remember right, those run a torsion style front suspension, so the coils are not an option.
Only two real issues when towing with a lowered truck: 1) if you have a ton of weight in the truck and/or a super heavy tongue weight on your trailer, you will bottom out over bumps (which sucks) 2) if you ever go to lakes that have a ramp with a very shallow angle into the water (where you will need to pull so far in that the rear tires are getting deep in the water) then you run the possibility of getting water inside the truck. Before I bagged my truck, it was dropped very low and once at elsinore (worst ramps anywhere) I did get water in through the doors.
I dont think that with a 5" drop on your truck #2 will be an issue at all. Especially with 50 series on 20's.

I will post some pics soon. There is a pic of my boat in my profile. If I do start bottoming out due to a heavy load (weight in truck or heavy tongue weight), would airbags help?

Thanks for all your advice. Most of my friends have their trucks jacked up with big mud/at tires. Can't wait to shock them when I mine is dropped in the opposite direction!

Jonathon - that's a sick setup if you get the malibu LSV since you already have the gmc denali.
