Spent some time in a private lesson with Chris Williams (CDubs) this weekend at Castaic. Didn't have all that much time on the water because of my schedule but the time I had was indeed time well spent. It's one thing to spend time riding with a sick wakeboarder, but it's a whole different story to work with someone who gives great coaching and can really give tips that register and make a difference in someone else's riding. Add to that someone who was super nice and wasn't critical of anything or anybody (except my riding, of course!). I've spent time with guys who love to bash various boats, boards, bindings, riders... whatever... and it was nice not to hear any of that when I was out there. It's nice to have a coach say "what you're doing right now is THIS and it makes your body do THIS. Try instead to do THIS..." rather than having someone say "your cut sucks", "your head position is all goofy", etc. Just a positive coaching style that I think works well-- especially since he could spot problems and fixes on every failed trick attempt. Chris-- I'm sure that once you get the school going it will be VERY popular here in Socal. I'll certainly be there!

When is he starting the school? I went out one time with himlast year and he goes huge. He wasnt in the boat when I rode so I didnt get a lesson like I was supposed to. |
|
He had some schedule details to work out as well as get the web site up. I believe it was in the next few weeks. But I don't want to speak for him-- I'm sure there will be an announcement here (either in a WW news item or in a discussion post at minimum). And, yeah he went pretty huge this weekend albeit for only a single run.

Cliff was that you with him Sunday? |

No wonder he missed the comp he was rumored to have been at . |
|
Yeah that was me (and my binding lube). Chris pointed out later who you were and I didn't get a chance to introduce myself. Sweet Sanger BTW. Just like I fantasize mine to be if it were black. |

Yeah thanks for the soap. CDubs is real good people. Last year when my 6 year old was just starting he always offered to help and gave him encouragement. He brings great chicks to the dock/club as well. |
|
ill agree with you on that one chris |

Yeah your son looked great out there. I'm jealous since my 7yr old boy has been slow to get back in the water after a big bail on the tube last year. He's just now warming up to riding on my board with me. Too bad I forgot to request he bring a female observer... |

Kids move at there own pace. At this age you got to let them tellyou when they are ready. Charles (6) my oldest is a little conservative and worried about getting hurt. Chase (3) who is still riding between my legs but is begging to try alone (won't let him until he can turnover in the water with board on) has absolutely no fear of getting hurt. When Chase starts riding on his own it will be very interesting to watch these two super competitive brothers push each other. Lately Chase has been telling me he wants to wakeskate and doesn't care about wakeboarding. He knows how to make dad feel proud. |

chris, do you have any idea on what he is going to name the school. (Message edited by jonb on June 14, 2004) |

Hey cliff thanks for the compliments. Next time we'll get out there and not have so many boats to wait in rotation with. Yeah guys i am starting up a wake school here in so cal. We are starting up with just wakeboarding but after the first month or so we will have motocross, and kiteboarding being added, then within the year all the cool sports. There is going to be pro instructors for each sport. Im not going to release the name of the school until everything is all ready to go but pretty soon here. Also we already have people getting lined up but on mondays starting in two weeks we are having special days with two boats and two instructors. It will basically be a day of riding with me and ricky g and two malibus and we will be coaching all day long and providing lunch. Its going to be 150 for each rider for the whole day and 6 riders per boat. Me and rick will switch groups halfway through the day so you get great coaching from each of us. Youll get enough riding on mondays to make that week go by nice. If you guys have any questions go ahead and post them and ill get back on here asap. |

Where will the school be? Lower Lake?? |
|
We are gonna be at Castaic using mostly the ski cove on upper lake unless its early morning then we can ride anywhere. Thats where i ride during the week and the water is plenty smooth. As far as mondays, we are gonna be hanging out at the day beach at Buena Vista with the two malibus. We will have ricky g's malibu lsv and my malibu vlx and everybody will be riding as much as thier bodies can take. Ricky and I will also be ridng those days doing demos. We can also go out and ride doubles with you there so you can learn one on one having the instructor ride with you while you try new tricks. This way we can show you a trick a few times before you try it. |
