WakeWorld and Planet X TV

It was the week before Worlds and we were pretty excited. Not just because the World Championships were going to be at Lake Elsinore, which is pretty much in our backyard, but because two months earlier we had set up a wakeboard shoot for a TV show called Planet X.
Planet X is an extreme sports show that makes it's way into over 63 million homes throughout the country. Needless to say, we were pretty stoked about putting together a wakeboarding shoot that would expose the sport to such a large audience. We were real happy about getting both Ricky Gonzalez (Malibu Boats and Hyperlite Wakeboards) and Evelyn Zerr (O'Brien Wakeboards) to come out to Lake San Vicente in San Diego for the shoot.
Ricky and Evelyn both put on a great show for the cameras despite some less than ideal conditions. They were both great to hang out with for the day and amazing to watch. Unfortunately, I drove all day, so I didn't get to see much of the riding until it was on video.
Some of the highlights included strapping a camera on Evelyn's O'Brien Answer that showed a view of Evelyn's face while she rode. It ended up popping off when she landed hard on a back roll, but it provided some killer footage up until that point. Ricky popped some huge airs off the double up and did some cool stuff over the in-water cameraman. One shot shows him in the water with a huge monkey bump on his forehead from a double up 720 that went bad.
Check out these video clips of some of the day's footage that were put together by a2xtreme.com. I was really impressed with how it turned out. These clips require you to have the Quicktime plug-in in order to view them. Click here to get it now.
Also, don't forget to check the Planet X website to see if the show will be airing in your area. A list of local stations that carry the show can be found by clicking here. It will run at different days and times depending on where you're watching, but it should be hitting your TV any day now!
In these video clips you'll see Ricky Gonzalez riding without a flotation device. Ricky is a professional who is aware of the risks of not wearing a USCG approved life vest and chose not to wear a vest for this TV shoot. Wakeboarding is a dangerous sport that can result in injury or even death. WakeWorld recommends that you wear a Coast Guard approved vest at all times while wakeboarding.
